Chuck’s Applesauce
Ingredients
At least 2 cups apples, but as much as you’d like - this recipe will work for large or small quantities
Red Hot cinnamon candy
Recommended Apple - Mutsu
Also good - Braeburn, Cortland, Empire, Granny Smith, Jonagold, McIntosh, Spigold
Instructions
Peel, core, and slice apples into at least quarters
Place apples into pot and add enough water that it just covers the apple
Boil 10-20 minutes, depending on the quantity you're making (if you've added too much water, just boil for longer)
When the boiling is almost done, add Red Hots cinnamon candy - quantity will vary depending on your amount of applesauce, but Chuck says “it takes a whole lot less than you’d expect.”
Mash with a potato masher until your desired consistency
More Red Hots can be added after mashing while sauce is still hot/warm to match desired taste if needed
