Ann’s Apple Bread

Bread Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup shortening

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 2 eggs

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • 2 Tbsp soured milk (2 Tbsp milk with 1/2 tsp lemon juice)

  • 2 cups flour

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1 Tbsp vanilla

  • 2 cups chopped peeled apples

Topping Ingredients

1 Tbsp cinnamon
3 Tbsp melted butter
1 Tbsp flour
2 Tbsp sugar

Recommended Apple - Golden Delicious or Granny Smith

Also good - Empire, Mutsu, Northern Spy

Instructions

  1. Cream the sugar with shortening

  2. Add beaten eggs and soured milk

  3. Mix in flour and salt

  4. Fold in vanilla and apples

  5. Pour into loaf pan and bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour, or until golden brown and done in the middle

  6. Just before the bread comes out of the oven, make the topping.

  7. Spread topping onto warm bread. Let bread with topping cool before removing from the loaf pan
